As the elections draw to a close for the mayor of London, figures have been released which state Conservative Boris Johnson is in the lead polling at 44% compared with Labour’s Ken Livingstone a close-second at 40%.
The Sun published that Boris thinks the reason Livingstone is struggling is because he is too out-of-date and sleazy. But the Labour candidate lashed out saying “It’s not an election for Have I Got News For You or Celebrity Mayor; it’s about who is best placed to run an £11billion budget every year.”
Livingstone said he thinks of his rival, Johnson, as a “joke”.
We shouldn’t forget of course that Boris’ reputation is hardly ‘squeaky-clean’, in 2004 Johnson’s sordid affair details were released to the press which damaged his reputation and credibility. As a result he was also sacked as frontbench spokesman by Michael Howard for lying about his private life.
Of course the election is not over yet and we cannot assume Boris Johnson will win. However, in the event that he does win as the mayor of London this could catapult the Conservative party into a far more comfortable position within government.
As a result of the elections the Conservatives have more seats than Labour in parliament, and Boris as mayor would prove as a further success against the Labour party.
Things aren’t looking good for Labour; obviously the British public just cannot resist the blonde bombshell look.
