Ode to George

Posted on 7 January 2009 by peter in Latest Media Training News

George BushIn two weeks time, George W Bush will leave the White House as president for the final time. Barack Obama will begin his first term in office in what, to many people, will be a welcome change.

For the last eight years though, Bush has been in charge of the most powerful country in the world and gun-hoe-ingly led his allies into the war against terrorism. However, unfortunately for him, he will not be remembered as a righteous leader who took on the evils of the world. Instead, he is more likely to be remembered as a simple man who had the tendency to say rather simple things.

In commemoration of Bush’s time in office, here is a list of ten of his best ‘Bushisms’:

1. We need an energy bill that encourages consumption.

2. When Iraq is liberated, you will be treated, tried, and persecuted as a war criminal.

3. Sometimes, Washington is one of these towns where the person – people who think they’ve got the sharp elbow is the most effective person.

4. I promise you I will listen to what has been said here, even though I wasn’t here.

5. I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe – I believe what I believe is right.

6. For every fatal shooting, there were roughly three non-fatal shootings. And, folks, this is unacceptable in America. It’s just unacceptable. And we’re going to do something about it.

7. It’s very important for folks to understand that when there’s more trade, there’s more commerce.

8. You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.

9. Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace to enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be an assignment.

10. Natural gas is hemispheric. I like to call it hemispheric in nature because it is a product that we can find in our neighbourhoods.

These statements go to show how important addressing the media is when it comes to shaping reputations. What you say and how you say it are essential in making sure you connect with your target audience effectively. Bush would always come undone because he would be unprepared for unseen circumstances and did not have the ability to pull himself out of a hole. Our training prepares our clients for any situation and never lets them get in a hole in the first place.

Here is a video of Mr Bush showing how it shouldn’t be done.
